Iran says it respects the vote of people in Turkey’s recent parliamentary elections, and hopes the result of the vote would help boost regional peace and stability.
“We respect the vote of the Turkish people and hope that the country’s peaceful and lively elections would contribute to the further development and welfare of the people of the country and play a significant role in ensuring and strengthening regional peace and stability,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Tuesday.
Turkey’s elections with an 86-percent voter turnout marks a “big victory” for the country and signals the Turkish people’s "growth and maturity," Afkham added.
She highlighted that Tehran and Ankara enjoy close and friendly relations, expressing confidence that reciprocal ties will further expand in the future on all fronts.
Turkey’s 2015 general election was held on June 7 to pick 550 members of the parliament.

With 99 percent of the votes counted, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) has won 41 percent of the vote and most of the seats, but lost its majority for the first time since coming to power in 2002.
Erdogan has now accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's government to allow the formation of a new government, which is likely to be a coalition.
