Press TV has interviewed Rodney Shakespeare, a political commentator in London, to get his take on remarks made by a British Royal Navy member, pointing to UK’s Trident nuclear submarine program as a disaster waiting to happen.
What follows is a rough transcription.
Press TV: This story is quite incredible, isn’t it? I like to know where this money went in terms of upkeep and second of all how could this be going on with this program with the name of Trident?
Shakespeare: Well, it is not quite incredible because morale is increasingly getting low in British submarine services. This brave young man is concerned with security issues but he is raising the big issue; whether the UK should have any form of nuclear deterrent? And in the first place this deterrent is based in Scotland and the Scots are now registering their intent to get rid of that deterrent. Why should we have atomic bombs? Who are we going to attack? Russia? The USA wants to attack Russia, they are insane; but sane people say no! We do not need a deterrent. And then there is the issue of British foreign policy which is connected with Israel. Israel is a paranoid, rancid attack dog and has 400 atomic weapons and no one in this country really raises the issue of how dangerous that is to the world. And where does Prince Charles go to do his sword dance with a smug on his face? He goes to Saudi Arabia where we are in cahoots and the Saudis are now trying to get an atomic weapon. They are probably going to try and get it from Pakistan, or they can even get it, because they are hand in glove with Israel, from Israel. This young man has put the flag up and said now is the time for the UK to throw out the whole issue, particularly that of Israel, particularly that of Saudi Arabia, and both two latter countries are of course aggressors who are intent on attacking women and children and killing as many as they can.
