Press TV has conducted an interview with Wilmer Leon, a civil rights activist based in Washington, to get his views on the rising trend of police brutality in the US.

Leon says that since the shooting death of African American Michael Brown, which led to widespread unrest all over the United States, nothing has changed in the country, and even more police shootings have taken place.

He argues that police officers in the United States are not trained well to handle different situations. He then points to the recent case of Thaddeus McCarroll, a 23-year-old mentally ill African-American suspect who was shot and killed by police. He further notes that the police could handle the situation differently if there was a specially-trained unit for such cases.

Leon concludes by saying that a national solution is necessary to solve the issue of police brutality, because, as a result of the recent shootings, the African-American community in particular has become very tense.
