Press TV has conducted an interview with Richard Becker, with the ANSWER Coalition, in San Francisco, to discuss the sentences given by a US court to four former guards of the private security firm Blackwater who killed 17 unarmed Iraqi civilians in 2007.
Becker says what took place in September 2007 in Iraq was “a massacre by mercenary troops of the United States.” The Blackwater security guards had been granted the “license to kill” by the US government and they were full of racist feelings against Iraqi people, he adds.
The employment of mercenary forces like the security guards of the Blackwater was part of a completely illegal, inhumane, unjust invasion and occupation of Iraq, Becker argues.
No US official has been brought to justice despite the fact that imposing sanctions and waging war against Iraq over two decades left millions of Iraqi people dead, injured and displaced, he said.
