After five days of heated debate on the Yemen crises, the Pakistani Parliament has finally given its verdict. In a unanimous resolution, the country’s lawmakers voted against Saudi Arabia’s demand seeking Pakistani military support against Ansarullah fighters in Yemen.

Expressing concerns over the worsening situation in Yemen, the Parliament has urged the government to stay neutral and play a role of a peace broker instead of joining the military offensive launched by Saudi Arabia in Yemen. Both the government and opposition lawmakers hailed the Parliament decision.

Saudi Arabia was not only seeking Pakistani ground forces, but also pushing the country to send its fighter jets as well as naval ships for the operation in Yemen.

Sensing the possible negative fallout of such a move, the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif decided to refer the matter to the Parliament. The government says it will fully respect the decision of the Parliament.
