The UK decision to bolster its military presence in the Malvinas Islands has raised tensions in the already strained relationship between London and Buenos Aires. The move comes after the British Secretary of Defense branded Argentina as a "very live threat" to the British-occupied territory in the South Atlantic.

The Argentine government blasted Britain's new militarization plan describing the initiative as a provocation and a pre-election stunt.

The UK reportedly made the decision based on an alleged secret deal between Argentina and Russia to wage a joint military operation against the islands.

The Argentine Minster of Defense immediately rejected the allegations as utterly false, misleading and malicious.

Argentinean lawmakers said that London is raising the specter of a new war as a pretext to build up its military expenditure.

Officials said that the UK decision to beef up its military presence in the South Atlantic with next-generation weapons of war represents a blatant violation of the UN General Assembly resolution 2065, which calls on both countries to settle the sovereignty dispute on a negotiating table and not in a battlefield.

British Defense Secretary reported that the UK will spend over 250 million US dollars to upgrade its military base in the archipelago. Analysts, however, revealed that Britons are showing a growing opposition to the initiative, especially after the tight austerity measures put forward by Prime Minister David Cameron.
