At least two people have been killed in a bomb attack near the Egyptian capital city of Cairo, security sources say.

According to an Egyptian police officer, two people lost their lives in the Nahia neighborhood on the outskirts of Cairo on Thursday after “assailants threw a crude bomb at the guard post of a youth leisure center.”

A security guard was among the victims, the officer added.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast. However, such incidents are blamed on the militants who have intensified terrorist attacks across Egypt since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi, the country’s former president, in July 2013.

The Egyptian police, however, said it cannot be immediately confirmed whether the recent assault was carried out by the militants.

The terrorists have been most active in the volatile Sinai Peninsula, where they have frequently targeted and killed Egypt’s security forces.

The so-called Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, an al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks in Sinai. It has recently pledged allegiance to the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group and changed its name to Velayat Sinai.

In late January, the group killed dozens of people and injured many others in a series of coordinated attacks in the violence-hit peninsula.
