US, UK spy agencies engage in theft, cybercrimes: Former US congressional staffer

Britain's electronic spying agency, in cooperation with the US National Security Agency, hacked into the networks of a Dutch company to steal codes that allow both countries to spy on mobile phones worldwide, according to the documents provided by Edward Snowden.

Revelations that the US National Security Agency (NSA) assisted Britain's electronic spying agency to hack a Dutch SIM card manufacturer is not surprising considering that both countries have “engaged in cyber crimes” and data theft, an activist and radio host in California says.

“The United States and Britain have engaged in criminal activity, theft, cyber crimes and a host of other crimes,” said Rodney Martin, a former US Congressional staffer and chairman of the All Nationalist Association.

“The United States spend billion spying and suppressing its own people, as a result it has lost all legitimacy and moral standing,” Martin said in an interview with Press TV on Friday.

A new report has revealed that the NSA and Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) have been cooperating to steal codes that allow both states to spy on mobile phones across the world.

Citing the documents given to journalists by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, The Intercept website reported on Thursday that the intelligence agencies have cooperated on hacking the networks of the Netherlands-based Gemalto company to “secretly monitor a large portion of the world’s cellular communications, including both voice and data.”

The Dutch company, which is the largest manufacturer of SIM cards in the world, makes “subscriber identity modules” for companies such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint, the report said.

“At some point there has to be public outrage and a decision by people to say ‘No More’ and take action versus private companies who violate their privacy, i.e. sue mobile phone providers and sue their own government as a method to expose their practices,” Martin said.

“The United States has for years, especially since 1945, marched around the globe assisting its puppet Governments in efforts to spy on their own people and suppressing dissent by way of technology and when that fails by sheer force and terror,” he added.

“The ultimate solution is for nations and people around the globe to sever links with the United States, both economically and militarily.  Isolating the global bully (the United States) will result in more peace and freedom for people around the world and ultimately for people in the United States as well,” he concluded.
