On the 38th floor of the Secretariat Building in Manhattan, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon presented Gholamali Khoshroo with his credentials. Khoshroo, who previously served as ambassador to Switzerland, is now the official UN ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Speaking to the press at the Iranian mission, the ambassador laid out Iran's priorities at the United Nations in the coming months.
He also described how Iran would be pushing for consistent and comprehensive action to halt the rise of terrorism and extremism.
The United Nations Security Council, led by China for the month of February, is currently addressing the crises in Iraq, Syria, and Ukraine, among other issues. Khoshroo expressed that Iran very much wants to push for peace and cooperation as instability persists in many parts of the world.
