World must pressure India over Kashmir, says commentator

This file photo shows angry protesters clashing with police in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur, executive director of Kashmir Institute of International Affairs from Islamabad, to discuss the ongoing clashes between protesters and government forces in the disputed Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Thakur says the reason the Kashmiri people have been protesting is because they are still demanding their right of self-determination, which is not something unreasonable. He also argues that the status quo will only change when the international community accepts that this is an international dispute not an internal one, adding that it must at least put some pressure on the Indian government to abide by international law.
