The three times presidential candidate and current member of the Parliament Elisa Carrio has filed a lawsuit against the Argentinean President and top officials for interfering in the investigations of the death of the Federal Prosecutor Alberto Nisman.
According to the lawmaker, they "got rid of Nisman because he posed a threat to the President".
Nisman had filed a criminal complaint against President Kirchner on January 15th for allegedly shielding former Iranian officials from being implicated in the bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center back in 1994. Iran has firmly rejected the accusations at all international forums and those allegations were eventually proven groundless as the prosecutor has never been able to produce any evidence against Tehran during his more than 10 years as head of the AMIA investigation.
The government suspects Nisman's death is linked to a power struggle between the Argentina's spy agency and rogue agents who had recently been fired. But the authorities neither rule out the responsibility of foreign parties as the prosecutor not only had secret ties with the CIA and the Mossad as it was exposed by Wikileaks but also had connections with pro-Israeli lobbies.
Officials of the executive power have affirmed Carrió’s claims have merely a political aim and are made to conceal her own connections with the intelligence services.
The center-left congresswoman Elisa Carrio has just formed an alliance with the far-right mayor of Buenos Aires Mauricio Macri to run for presidential elections in 2015. Furthermore, her former political ally Pino Solanas revealed she had a close relation with a senior intelligence officer who is claimed to be one of the main links between the Argentine spy agency, the CIA and the Mossad.
The complaint filed by Carrio will now be assessed by a Federal Court and, if it is accepted, President Cristina Kirchner will have to face a legal proceeding which could have serious implications in this year’s presidential elections.
