Yemen’s military has announced a ballistic missile attack on the operations room of Saudi-backed forces at Badr military camp in Aden province, dismissing reports of launching a drone toward the holy city of Medina.
Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement on Wednesday that the missile strike accurately targeted the operations room of forces affiliated with the Saudi enemy at Badr camp in Aden.
“Our armed forces were able to target the operations room of forces affiliated with the Saudi enemy at Badr camp in Aden province with a ballistic missile,” Saree said, adding that the attack was accurate and directly hit the intended target.
Meanwhile, news reports said a missile attack on Aden International Airport, saying explosions were heard in the area. According to these reports, Yemeni forces launched the attack from the al-Sabrah area south of Ibb province.
Yemen rejects Saudi Arabia’s claim of drone attack on Medina
Saree also rejected claims that Yemen conducted a military operation deep inside Saudi territory, dismissing reports that a drone had been intercepted in the airspace over Medina as false.
“The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that they did not carry out any military operation deep inside Saudi Arabia today,” he said. “The claims made by the Saudi enemy about intercepting a drone in the airspace over Medina are false and constitute a major attempt to mislead public opinion against our honorable and devoted people and armed forces.”
He argued that the allegations exposed the Saudi side’s falsehoods, adding that they would not be accepted by the Arab and Muslim peoples.
In a separate statement on Tuesday night, Saree said the Saudi-led coalition carried out 93 air and missile attacks against Yemen over the previous 24 hours.
He said the attacks targeted areas and civilian sites in the provinces of al-Jawf, Taiz, Sa’ada, Marib, Hajjah, Lahij, Amran, and Ibb, resulting in the deaths and injuries of a number of civilians.
The Yemeni Armed Forces’ counteroffensive came after more than a decade of Saudi-led war and blockade against Yemen, which began in 2015 when Riyadh intervened militarily to restore the former regime in the country.
The war has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis, while Riyadh has failed to achieve its stated objective of reinstating the government it backed in Sana’a.
Saudi Arabia has sharply escalated its aggression in recent weeks, with Yemeni officials reporting hundreds of airstrikes across the country.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have responded with major operations along the Red Sea coast, driving Saudi-backed forces from strategic positions.
They have also seized strategic areas and islands around Bab al-Mandeb, significantly strengthening their position at one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints.
