‘Mimicking US language won’t shield Canada’: Tehran blasts Ottawa for downplaying Trump’s annihilation threat

Iran has lashed out at Canada for downplaying US President Donald Trump’s threat to "annihilate" Iran, saying mimicking American bullying language could not shield the country from the claws of power.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks in an X post on Thursday, two days after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described Trump’s threat against Iran as simply “the language of war” in a speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

Baghaei said Carney chose to appease Washington by reframing a threat to "annihilate" Iran as merely "speaking the language of war" instead of condemning blatant US aggression and warmongering.

“Mark Carney must understand that time is too ruthless to let the shelter of illusion and hypocrisy endure forever,” he added.

“A day will surely dawn when those who sought refuge in the long shadow of American bullying—believing that mimicking the language of the mighty could shield them from the claws of power—will stand bare before the truth.”

He also emphasized that averting eyes from reality and bartering away dignity “buys no salvation,” but rather leaves Ottawa defenseless before the very force that demands its submission.

The spokesman further hailed the Iranian nation’s resilience against the illegal US-Israeli aggression that killed at least 3,500 civilians.

“Perhaps, in that hour of reckoning, they will look upon Iran and finally comprehend. They will see that the nation they once conspired with empires to crush was the solitary guardian of a sacred flame,” he said.

“By standing unyielding against coercion, it kept a torch burning in the dark—a torch that, if allowed to die, would leave humanity with nothing but the cold embrace of naked force, burying the civilized and humane altars of reason beneath the brutal logic of might.”

Addressing the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the nation, which has been the target of cowardly attacks and aggression, will keep resisting US sanctions, pressure and bullying, noting, “We will never bow our head or bend at the knee.”

Iran’s military warns of ‘unpredictable blows’ in response to US threats

Iran’s military bodies warn that the country would deliver “even harsher, crushing, and unpredictable blows” to aggressors, responding to the US president’s most recent threats.

The US and Israel launched their terrorist war of aggression against Iran on February 28 by assassinating Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders.

Forty days later, on April 8, the enemies were forced to accept a ceasefire amid Iran’s resistance, successful retaliatory operations, and a powerful grip on the Strait of Hormuz.

In July, the US conducted waves of deadly air raids on Iran and imposed a naval blockade of the country in violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic, signed on June 17, to end the war.

In response, the Iranian armed forces launched devastating strikes against strategic American targets across West Asia and declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to all traffic.
