IRGC Aerospace Force downs US MQ-9 drone over Ahvaz amid US escalations

US military forces place wheel chocks down to stabilize an MQ-9 Reaper drone.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has intercepted and shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone as part of defensive operations against the aggression waged by the US against Iran.

In a statement on Sunday, the IRGC’s Public Relations Department said that the unmanned aerial vehicle has been brought down over the skies of the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz by the IRGC Aerospace Force’s advanced, new air defense system, which is operating under the country’s integrated air defense network.

The development comes at a time when renewed US strikes on Iran targeting civilian sites and infrastructure have entered a second week.

In response to the American war crimes, which have killed dozens of innocent people, Iranian armed forces have launched heavy reprisal attacks against strategic American targets across the region.

The US and the Israeli regime waged their illegal war of aggression against Iran on February 28. However, forty days later, on April 8, the enemies were forced to accept a ceasefire amid Iran’s brave resistance, successful retaliatory operations, and powerful grip on the Strait of Hormuz.

On June 17, Tehran and Washington signed the Pakistan-brokered Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts and includes a commitment from both sides to hold further talks on a final agreement in the next 60 days.

However, Washington violated all provisions of the understanding, prompting Iran to deliver a firm response and declare the Strait of Hormuz closed at least until “the end of US interference in the region.”
