Four illegal Israeli settlers have been arrested for an attack on CNN crew in the occupied West Bank in Palestine.
Israeli police forces said they arrested the settlers on Saturday for damaging a vehicle carrying foreign journalists in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli forces “were dispatched to the scene, secured the journalists’ passage, and detained four suspects believed to have been involved in the incident,” it said.
CNN reported that the Israeli settlers attacked its team of journalists as they were passing by Ramallah, the administrative capital of Palestine.
The CNN crew was reporting near the village of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, when the attack took place, according to the US broadcaster.
It reported on its website that the Israeli settlers blocked the road, stopping the cars from passing through.
“As the CNN team and other journalists tried to leave, a group of four settlers blocked the road with their car and tried to keep the vehicles from moving forward,” the network reported.
“The four settlers were wielding wooden and metal rods and stones. One settler brandished a knife and tried to puncture the tires of CNN’s vehicle,” it added.
As reported by the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, there were 3,488 incidents of aggression by illegal settlers in the West Bank in the first half of this year, causing the deaths of 17 Palestinians.
Since October 2023, the occupied West Bank has experienced a surge in Israeli military offensives and assaults by settlers, resulting in the deaths of at least 1,179 Palestinians. Another 12,666 individuals have been injured, and around 24,000 people have been abducted, according to official Palestinian figures.
Human rights groups say Israeli authorities have allowed the settlers to operate with total impunity in their attacks against Palestinians.
