Israel suffered ‘more humiliating’ defeat in Iran riots than 12-dar war: Parliament speaker

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says the Israeli regime suffered a “more humiliating defeat” in the recent terrorist riots in the country in comparison with the 12-day imposed war last June.

“The Zionist regime carried out simultaneous and organized terrorist operations in various cities across Iran but…it suffered a more humiliating defeat in less than 48 hours than it did in the 12-day war,” Qalibaf said on Saturday.

He hailed great efforts by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces to protect the country both during the US-Israeli war and the recent terrorist riots.

He added that the foreign-backed riots were in the style of the Daesh terrorist group that committed crimes and carried out killings, and its members were faithless and anti-religion.

The top Iranian parliamentarian emphasized that the terrorists were completely trained by the Israeli regime, the US, and their stooges.

He noted that the Israeli regime had orchestrated the attack in the same manner as it had done in the terrorist pager attack on Lebanon in September 2024.

On September 17, 2024, thousands of wireless communication devices belonging to members of the resistance movement Hezbollah exploded in unison in different locations across Lebanon and Syria, killing at least 12 people and injuring around 3,000 others, mostly ordinary citizens.

The Israeli regime officially claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qalibaf warned against the enemies’ plot to create division in the country to hurt the interests of the Iranian nation and the Islamic Revolution.

He stressed the importance of adhering to the orders of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, to counter the enemies’ conspiracies.

Late last month, economic hardships, caused and exacerbated by years of Western sanctions, triggered a wave of peaceful protests among merchants in Tehran and other cities.

Authorities recognized the protesters' demands as legitimate, but the demonstrations were hijacked by rioters backed by American and Israeli leaders, who publicly called for vandalism and disorder.

Officials said that some of the mercenaries were armed, trained, and recruited by US and Israeli spy agencies to incite violence, damage public property, and kill civilians and members of security forces.

In a statement on Wednesday, Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs said a total of 3,117 people had lost their lives during the riot.

It further noted that 2,427 of those killed were innocent civilians and security personnel.
