Iranian table tennis player Benyamin Faraji has won the championship at the Qatar International Under-17 tournament, securing another major title in his rapidly rising career.

Faraji claimed first place at the Youth Contender tournament in Qatar on Tuesday, defeating Man Long Sai of Hong Kong 3-0 in the final held on Tuesday. The victory crowned him champion of the Under-17 category.

The prodigy advanced to the final after defeating opponents from Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, and South Korea earlier in the competition.

Arshia Lorestani was Iran’s other representative at the tournament, but was eliminated in the round of 16 and failed to advance to the quarterfinals.

Faraji’s triumph in Qatar adds to a series of notable achievements for the young Iranian player.

In October 2024, the 14-year-old made international headlines after defeating world number one Wang Chuqin of China at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

At that tournament, Faraji defeated the 24-year-old Chinese player 3-2 in the quarter-finals, despite Wang holding gold medals in team and mixed doubles from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Faraji is currently the highest-ranked junior table tennis player globally.
