Qatari Emir arrives in Tehran for deeper cooperation talks

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani (C) arrives at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran on Wednesday.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has arrived in Tehran on an official visit for talks with Iranian officials.

Sheikh Tamim is leading a high-ranking delegation and his talks with top Iranian officials will cover mutual cooperation as well as regional and international developments, including the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Iran’s Ambassador to Doha Ali Salehabadi said Wednesday that the visit is in line with the deep-rooted ties of the two countries and aims to serve their common interests, IRNA reported.

Salehabadi said meetings between the two sides will facilitate deeper political, security, and economic cooperation and enhance coordination in addressing regional issues through constructive diplomacy.

He touched on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Qatar, calling it a big step in bilateral relationship, which saw the two countries sign several agreements to step up cultural, economic, and political cooperation.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Tehran Saad Abdullah Saad Al Mahmoud Al Sharif also said Sheikh Tamim’s visit to Tehran underscores stable relations between Doha and Tehran.

He said Sheikh Tamim's trip to Tehran aims to enhance mutual relations in economic, trade, and investment sectors as well as discuss regional and international issues.

Qatar has played a key mediating role in ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and maintains strong relations with Iran.

Tehran, which supported Doha during the Arab nations' blockade against Qatar, has consistently maintained dynamic diplomatic ties with the Persian Gulf littoral state.
