Hamas says Deif, fellow leaders shattered Israel’s myth of invincibility

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has hailed its martyred commanders’ battleground prowess, which used to instill fear into the Israeli regime’s ranks and smashed its alleged invincibility.

The movement passed the remarks in a statement on Friday, mourning the martyrdom of Mohammad 'Abu Khaled' Deif, former commander of al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ armed wing, who used to be on Tel Aviv’s kill list for long, as well as other high-ranking military officials within the group, whose martyrdom was announced recently.

“They shaped, through their creativity, blood, and sacrifices, the epic of the glorious October 7, and what followed of legendary steadfastness and popular unity,” Hamas said.

The movement was referring to the Gaza Strip-based Palestinian resistance fighters’ retaliatory operation of that date that saw them venturing deep inside the occupied Palestinian territories and ensnaring 240 Zionists.

The operation, it added, “shattered the myth of an invincible [Israeli] army, breaking the occupier’s arrogance, thwarting all enemy schemes, and creating a timeless glory for our people, our nation, and all the free people of the world, becoming a global model of heroism, resilience, and the will to achieve freedom, independence, and liberation from occupation.”

The movement noted that during their contribution to Palestinian resistance, the martyrs never retreated on the field of heroism and sacrifice, including in the midst of the heroic October 7al-Aqsa Storm Operation.

It reminded how the heroic figures planned, managed, designed, and directed the operation alongside other steadfast resistance fighters.

Besides achieving the gains during the strike, the figures went on to defend Gaza during an ensuing war of genocide by the Israeli regime, throughout which resistance fighters killed 842 Israeli troops and 69 police forces.

The numbers, however, are the ones that have been released by Israeli officials. The resistance, itself, has come up with far higher figures.

Hamas added that “the lives of these great heroic commanders were filled with giving, dedication, and tireless work in service of our people’s resistance project in every field: Preparing for battle, keeping watch, and championing our people’s aspirations for liberation and return.“

It underlined that the heroes’ sacrifices were not confined to al-Aqsa Storm, enumerating many other successful operations that had benefited from their presence, such as the Battle of al-Furqan, Hijarat al-Sijjil, al-‘Asf al-Ma’kul, and and Saif (Sword of) al-Quds.

Referring to the twilight stages of their lives, the movement said, “This final, glorious chapter befits those exceptional leaders, heroic men, and national symbols, who devoted themselves and their lives to serving their people and their national cause, and defending [the holy occupied city of] al-Quds and the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque.”

‘Commanders administered heavy blows to Israel’

It also underscored that Deif’s and others’ contribution served to “inflict heavy blows on the enemy’s army and imposed new equations in the struggle.”

According to Hamas, Deif’s name continued to instill terror and fear among the Zionist entity’s politicians and military leaders, until he ascended as a martyr in the most honorable and greatest battle in the history of the resisting Palestinian people.

It commended the martyr as the one, who authored al-Aqsa Storm with “his ideas, blood, and sacrifices from its first communiqué onward.”

The group, meanwhile, honored the memory of those of the resistance’s former leaders, who had ascended to martyrdom before him, such as former leader Yahya Sinwar, former Political Bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, and high-ranking commander Saleh al-Arouri.

Hamas finally asserted that such assassinations would only increase its strength, resolve, and determination to proceed on the path of resistance until liberation of Palestinians’ land and sanctities.
