Alliance for Sahel states formally leaves ECOWAS

The Alliance for Sahel States, comprised of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger Republic, has officially left the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Their exit signals a rejection of foreign influences, including those of their former colonial ruler, France.
