The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has called on the Israeli regime to end its occupation of Palestinian territories in line with a ruling by the International Court of Justice.

“Israeli forces’ regular recourse to unlawful lethal force in the occupied West Bank is a horrifying escalation of an already explosive situation,” the Office said in a Wednesday statement on X.

The United Nations’ top court, ICJ, ruled in July that Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is “unlawful” and that the regime “is under an obligation” to end it “as rapidly as possible.”

Elsewhere in the statement, the Office noted that on Tuesday, Israeli forces killed eight Palestinian men in Tammun and Qabatiya in the West Bank. On November 3, Israeli forces shot in the abdomen and killed an unarmed 14-year-old Palestinian boy in Halhul.

The UN Office is internationally mandated to monitor the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and report on the matter.

Israeli forces abducted at least 12 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society and Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs confirmed in a joint statement that among the people are a woman, an injured person and former abducted.

Israel has stepped up violence against the Palestinians in the West Bank since it launched the campaign of genocide in Gaza in October 2023.
