A senior Iranian commander says, during October, warplanes belonging to the Israeli regime and its allies, chiefly the US, the UK and France, hovered across the Iraqi airspace for 25 consecutive days in preparation for possible attack against the Islamic Republic.
Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, deputy chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination, made the remarks on Tuesday, attending the Congress of 15,000 Martyrs of the southern Iranian Fars Province.
He was speaking days after Israel carried out a deadly aggression against Iran.
In early October, Iran’s Operation True Promise II saw the Islamic Republic launch 200 missiles towards Israeli military and intelligence bases all over the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories in retaliation for the regime’s acts of deadly aggression against the country and other regional nations.
Following the Iranian operation, the Iraqi airspace was "at the disposal" of the regime and its supporters, including the United States, Britain, France, and some littoral Persian Gulf Arab states, during the 25-day period as “they sought to take an offensive measure against us,” Sayyari said.
The development featured hundreds of manned and unmanned warplanes, tanker aircraft, and electronic warfare aircraft flying across the Iraqi skies in preparation for the potential attack, the commander noted.
“However, as a result of the readiness and alertness of our dear [servicemen] in the Air Defense and Air Force, a concerted operation took place that did not allow any of the enemy’s advanced aircraft to cross our borders,” he said.
Sayyari said the operation forced the hostile warplanes to fire ballistic missiles towards the Islamic Republic, while flying as far as 100 kilometers away from the country’s borders.
A large number of the projectiles were destroyed by the Iranian air defenses, while only some managed to strike locations inside the country, he added.
“They knew that we are awake, alert, and battle-tested, [that] our nation is familiar with these situations,” the commander noted.
Sayyari, meanwhile, warned that the Islamic Republic’s enemies were constantly on the lookout for an opportunity to deliver a blow to the country.
The Iranian youths are, however, guarding the country’s borders day and night so the Iranian people can enjoy security and welfare and the country stays on the path of progress, the official stated.
The senior Army commander hailed the country’s military might, citing the examples of Operation True Promise II and Operation True Promise, during which the Islamic Republic’s forces fired more than 300 missiles and drones against the occupied territories back in April in reprisal for deadly aggression by the Israeli regime that had targeted Iranian diplomatic facilities in the Syrian capital of Damascus earlier that month.
“Our Armed Forces delivered heavy blows to the Zionist regime during the operations, and put their offensive capability on display.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, the commander denounced the Israeli regime’s ongoing war of genocide on the Gaza Strip and escalated deadly aggression against Lebanon, which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people, half of whom are women and children.
“These atrocities are being committed with the support of the [global] arrogance. What answer can the international system and human rights [organizations] provide in the face of these crimes?” he asked.
