Air France suspends flights to Tel Aviv, Beirut
Air France says it suspends all its flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut amid growing concerns over escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
The French carrier said in a statement on Sunday, “Flights today and tomorrow are suspended.” It said that the suspension could be extended depending on the situation in West Asia.
“Resuming these routes will be subject to a new assessment of the security situation.”
Air France, which usually runs a daily service to both cities, had already halted flights to Beirut between July 29 and August 15 but has kept flying to Tel Aviv.
On Friday, German airline Lufthansa extended its Beirut flight suspension to the end of September and said that it would not fly to Tel Aviv until September 2.
Israel on Sunday declared a 48-hour state of emergency following a large-scale Hezbollah retaliatory attack on the occupied territories.
Later in the day, Israel launched airstrikes on southern Lebanon, killing at least three people, according to the country’s health ministry.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the head of the Israeli regime, threatened that the airstrikes on Lebanon were "not the final word" in Israel’s military campaign against the country.
