Iran military chief: Israel will definitely regret assassinating Hamas leader

Iran’s top military commander asserts that the Israeli regime “will definitely regret” its recent assassination of senior Hamas’ leader, Ismail Haniyeh.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks on Thursday, attending a funeral procession held in honor of the late head of the Palestinian resistance movement’s Political Bureau in Tehran.

The assassination claimed the lives of Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards in the Iranian capital on Wednesday. The Palestinian resistance leader had reached the city to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh assassinated in Tehran

Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in an attack in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has warned the regime of a "harsh response" for the assassination, saying it was the Islamic Republic's duty to avenge the blood of the resistance leader.

Asked about the potential of an Iranian response to the atrocity, Baqeri likewise said, “This will definitely happen,” adding, “Various measures should take place [in retaliation].”

Also on Thursday, the chief commander of the Iranian Army similarly addressed the issue of the assassination, saying, “The Israeli crime will definitely not go unanswered.”

“The resistance front will serve this crime with required response,” added Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, who was speaking to Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network.
