Nouri’s release ‘another defeat’ for MKO, other anti-Iran terror groups: Rights official
Iran’s top human rights official says the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) and other terrorist outfits suffered another blow at the hands of the Islamic Republic by the release of Hamid Nouri, a former judiciary official, from illegal detention in Sweden.
Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, made the remarks in a phone interview with IRIB TV2 channel after Nouri returned home following five-year-long imprisonment in Sweden on politically motivated charges.
He said there was no reason to keep Nouri in prison as the accusations against him were made by the notorious MKO terror cult which has shed the blood of more than 17,000 innocent people.
He also referred to a recent attack by French police on the MKO’s main headquarters in a Paris suburb that led to the sealing of the premises and the detention of at least three terrorists.
“These are defeats for the groups that try to drive a wedge between Iran and other countries,” he said.
“The release of Mr. Nouri was another defeat for the MKO terrorist group and anti-Iran outfits.”
Nouri was arrested upon arrival at Stockholm Airport in November 2019 and immediately imprisoned over unfounded allegations promoted by elements representing the MKO.
He spent three and a half years of his unlawful imprisonment in Sweden in solitary confinement.
Gharibabadi said Nouri and his family suffered a lot during his imprisonment, vowing to make efforts towards the freedom of Iranians who are unjustly detained in European countries.
Nouri, he added, was released as part of an exchange with two people who had committed crimes.
‘The rights official also highlighted attempts made by the late Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian regarding Nouri’s release.
“I am sure that the pure soul of Martyr Amir-Abdollahian is satisfied and happy today and is watching this great success for our country,” Gharibabadi noted.
“This issue is not actually the freedom of a fellow countryman. The enemies had turned Mr Nouri’s case into a case against the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of a terrorist group, but they were defeated by the grace of God.”
Also, in a post on his X account on Sunday, Iran’s interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani said, “through authoritative diplomacy, Nouri had returned to beloved Iran after enduring 1,680 days of captivity in a Swedish prison.”
