Imam Khomeini’s revolutionary spirit, actions transformed entire region, world: Pakistani senator
The sphere of influence of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini’s revolutionary spirit and endeavor far exceeded Iran’s borders, says a Pakistani senator.
Mushahid Hussain Sayed made the remarks to Press TV on Monday, which coincided with the 35th passing anniversary of Imam Khomeini, who led Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979, overthrowing the country’s United States-backed Pahlavi regime.
Imam Khomeini’s legacy “is an amazing legacy, a unique legacy of a great revolutionary, who transformed, not only Iran, through the Islamic Revolution, but who transformed the region and the world as we knew it then,” he said.
“Because he overthrew a very entrenched dictatorial monarchy, which had been propped up by the United States at the peak of the Cold War, through mass mobilization and through Islam,” the Pakistani official added.
In addition, Imam Khomeini stood up to the superpowers of the time, namely the US and the Soviet Union, both during and after the Revolution’s fruition, he added.
He also withstood aggression from the outside, Sayed said, referring to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein’s heavily-Western-backed invasion of the Islamic Republic from 1980 to 1988.
Above all, however, Imam Khomeini gave new hope and inspiration to the oppressed, whether they were in Palestine, Kashmir, Lebanon or in any other part of the world, the Pakistani official noted.
Imam Khomeini, therefore, symbolizes “defiance, resistance, hope, and inspiration to build a better tomorrow by overthrowing the oppressive system,” he said.
Sayed also reflected on the Imam’s making Palestine the centerpiece of the Iranian foreign policy and a pillar of the Islamic Revolution’s worldview.
“He said very clearly that the Islamic Revolution will not be complete until Palestine is liberated from the Zionist yoke and the Palestinians get their own independent stat with al-Quds al-Sharif as the capital.”
