Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has expressed the Islamic Republic’s willingness to expand bilateral relations with Algeria, saying the mutual cooperation between the two countries can serve the interests of both nations as well as the entire Muslim world.

Raeisi made the remarks in a meeting with Algerian People's National Assembly's Speaker Ibrahim Boughali in the capital Tehran on Tuesday, while hailing his visit as a milestone in the process of strengthening ties between the Tehran and Algiers.

The Iranian president went on to say that the activation of the joint Iran-Algeria economic commission and the preparation of a roadmap for their relations can play an effective role in accelerating and facilitating the expansion of interactions in various fields.

Raeisi further pointed out that Iran is now a technologically advanced country that has been able to turn sanctions and pressures into opportunities for progress, adding that it is ready to share its experience and achievements with Algeria.

He also thanked Algeria for its clear stance in supporting the interests of the Islamic world as well as its exposing of the nature and policies of the Israeli regime.

Raeisi further stated that Iran and Algeria, based on their common views on regional and international issues, can have constructive and helpful cooperation for the benefit of their own nations and the Islamic world, noting that the domination-seeking powers, led by the United States, and Israel, oppose the expansion of relations between independent countries.

Boughali, for his part, described Iran as a central and influential power with an ancient civilization and culture, noting that a more powerful Iran will provide more strength for the Islamic Ummah.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the upward trend of diplomatic relations between the two countries, saying Algiers is interested in expanding economic relations, given friendly political ties and the existing necessary capacities.

Boughali further said it necessary to boost coherence among Islamic countries, stressing the need to adopt strong stances amid the attacks on Islamic sanctities and the escalated oppressive actions by the Israeli regime against the people of Palestine.

He also expressed sympathy with the Iranian government and nation regarding the recent terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz.

The latest development came a day after Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran is determined to improve bilateral cooperation with Algeria in various fields, particularly in the economic, trade and tourism sectors.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also said he and Boughali, as the president of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), have agreed on holding a virtual meeting among the heads of parliaments to condemn the desecration of Islamic sanctities, including Qur’an-burning in Western countries, and find a suitable response to the issue.
