Jordanians rally in support of Palestinian resistance against Israel’s deadly Jenin raid

Thousands of Jordanians have staged a massive rally to express their unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s resistance in the face of the Israeli regime’s two-day military onslaught on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.

The demonstrators, hailing from many political, factional and social bodies, participated in the rally organized following Friday prayers in the capital Amman to mark the victory of Palestinians and resistance fighters in the Jenin camp.

The participants chanted slogans in support of Jenin residents, saying, “Jenin, the stronghold of Lions… Jenin has valiant and courageous fighters… Jenin does not bow to the Israeli occupation.”

At the same time, the demonstrators expressed their support for Palestinian resistance groups in other cities, including Nablus, which has been under Israeli military attacks on the same scale.

“The Palestinian cause is passing through dangerous and decisive moments as the Zionist enemy is increasing Judaization, settlement construction, uprooting trees and deporting Palestinians,” said Mohammad Iqtishat, a senior leader of the Islamic Movement in Jordan.

The EU representative to the Palestinian territories has censured Israel in connection with the deadly Jenin raid.

Iqtishat noted that all Palestinians and their holy sites “are facing fierce Israeli attacks,” and the only party defending them is “the brigades of the Palestinian resistance.”

He called upon Arab and Muslim nations to stand up and assume their responsibilities in supporting Palestinians, and prepare for the “Fateful battle through which the occupying Israeli regime is planning to wipe out the Jenin refugee camp.”

“Why does the world keep mum on Israeli crimes against the Palestinians? When will the international community, Muslims and Arabs take actions and stop the Israeli attacks?” Iqtishat asked.

UN chief Antonio Guterres told reporters on Thursday that “there was an excessive force used by Israeli forces” during the Jenin raid, which claimed the lives of at least 12 Palestinians and left approximately 100 others injured.

One Israeli soldier was also killed during the raid. Israeli troops finally pulled back from Jenin on Tuesday evening following a 44-hour-long incursion.

Guterres also said Israeli forces had prevented the injured from receiving medical care and stopped humanitarian workers from reaching those in need.

The UN chief reminded Israel that “as the occupying power, it has a responsibility to ensure that the civilian population is protected against all acts of violence”.

“Israel’s air strikes and ground operations in a crowded refugee camp were the worst violence in the West Bank in many years, with a significant impact on civilians,” Guterres said.

Over $15 million needed to rebuild Jenin after latest Israeli onslaught: Palestinian minister

The Palestinian minister of public works and housing says over $15 million is needed to rebuild the occupied West Bank city of Jenin after the latest Israeli military onslaught.

A group of UN experts said on Wednesday that Israel’s military raids targeting the Jenin refugee camp “may prima facie constitute a war crime.”

“Israeli forces’ operations in the occupied West Bank, killing and seriously injuring the occupied population, destroying their homes and infrastructure, and arbitrarily displacing thousands, amount to egregious violations of international law and standards on the use of force and may constitute a war crime,” the experts said in a statement.

The statement condemned Israeli forces’ so-called “counterterrorism” actions as they had “no legal justification under international law”, and expressed “grave concern” about military weaponry and tactics deployed by Israel’s occupation forces at least twice over the last two weeks against Jenin’s population.

“[Palestinians] cannot be treated as a collective security threat by the occupying Power, all the more while it advances the annexation of occupied Palestinian land, and displacement and dispossession of its Palestinian residents,” it added.
