Iran: UN, world bodies legally-bound to protect Palestinians against Israeli crimes

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani

Iran has slammed the "deliberate silence" of the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights in the face of atrocities committed by the Israeli regime, saying the United Nations and  other international organizations have a legal obligation to protect the people of Palestine.

"As a result of the deliberate silence of the false claimants of #human_rights, the assassination and killing of the Palestinian activists and people have turned into a daily behavior of the Zionists," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani said in a post on his official Twitter account on Sunday.

He added that international bodies and the UN Security Council, in particular, have a legal responsibility to support the Palestinian people in the face of the occupying Israeli regime.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

Most of the raids have focused on the West Bank cities of Nablus and Jenin, where Israeli forces have been trying to stifle a growing Palestinian resistance against occupation.

In its latest brutal attack on the Palestinians, Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinians during a raid on Nur Shams refugee camp near the city of Tulkarm in the northern part of the West Bank on Saturday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement.

Both men were 22 years old and died of bullet wounds to their chest, neck and abdomen, it added.

The attack came just two day after Israeli forces killed three Palestinian men and injured several others during a raid on Nablus, followed by a separate act of aggression that killed a woman near the city.

The Palestinian Health Ministry had initially said on Thursday that the facial features of the victims were completely distorted due to the intensity of the shooting, making it difficult to identify them.
