Syrian political parties along with Syria-based Palestinian factions have gathered in Arnous Square in Damascus calling on the US and its Western allies to lift economic sanctions on Syria.
Speakers said this Western siege on Syria is inhumane and requires urgent actions by the international community considering that people in Syria are dealing with deteriorating economic conditions following the recent earthquakes.
Participants raised Syrian and Palestinian flags as well as banners, asking for an end to the decades-long bans that have deprived them of their basic needs and resulted in a surge in food and medicine prices.
The recent earthquakes have further worsened the already deteriorating economic and humanitarian situation in Syria. The UN says even before the earthquake tragedy, 70 percent of the population needed humanitarian assistance due to the war in the country.
One challenge after another, Syrians endured so many hardships in the past decade that made living a normal life a daily challenge. US and EU sanctions exacerbated their suffering and they demand an end to such injustice.
