More than one year after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, a Gallup survey has found that almost all Afghans (98 percent) rate their life poorly enough to be considered suffering. The survey shows that the situation is getting worse for Afghans and they have fully lost hope that their future will be any better.

According to the survey, nine in ten Afghans say they find it “very difficult” to make ends meet. 92 percent of the respondents say they think it is a bad time to find a job while 86 percent say they’ve been unable to buy food.

The Gallup survey also reveals that the unpopularity of the American leadership has risen to a record 84 percent among Afghans. Meanwhile, the poll shows more and more Afghans are looking favorably towards Iran, as the neighboring country’s popularity is on the rise.

Afghanistan is rated as the most suffering and unhappiest country in the world. Many here believe the current situation is a direct result of the US occupation and war in the country.
