Iran has held an automotive exhibition, titled “The new era of Iran’s automotive industry”. The event provides an opportunity for auto parts manufacturers and automakers to establish better bonds and meet the needs of the industry and the market through joint cooperation.
According to a report released by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), Iran has been ranked the world’s 19th biggest automaker in 2021. Based on the OICA data, Iranian automakers produced almost 900,000 vehicles in 2021. That marked a two percent increase compared to 2020.
The Iranian manufacturers currently produce six different types of vehicles, including passenger cars, 4WD, trucks, buses, minibuses, and pickup trucks. The sector has directly employed about 500,000 people and many more in related industries. About 75% of local output is passenger cars, while pick-ups come in the second place, with around 15%.
The automotive industry is a key driving force in Iran as it keeps more than 60 other industries moving. The industry is only second to the country’s energy sector, accounting for some 10 percent of the gross domestic product.
