French troops leave military base in northern Mali 

Franc is planning to scale down its military presence in the Sahel region in Africa. Anti-French sentiment is running high there. Paris has been accused of pursuing a hidden agenda there to protect its economic interests. The Sahel region was traditionally the colonial backyard of France.
