Masoud Pezeshkian – ‘An administration relying on people to help Iran overcome challenges’
Reformist politician Masoud Pezeshkian currently serves as a lawmaker in Iran’s 11th Parliament (Majlis). He has represented the cities of Tabriz, Osku, and Azarshahr at the three previous parliaments, as he does now.
Pezeshkian, a heart surgeon by profession, served as health minister between 2001 and 2005 in the cabinet of the then-President Seyyed Mohammad Khatami.
He was the chancellor of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences for seven years and is currently an academic member of the university.
Born in 1954 in Mahabad City of Iran’s West Azarbaijan Province, Pezeshkian studied general medicine and general surgery at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. He continued his studies at Iran University of Medical Sciences, where he became a specialist in cardiac surgery.

Speaking to journalists after registering his presidential bid, Pezeshkian said “problems could be resolved through reliance on the people,” and that everyone should play a role in order for the country to overcome the challenges it is facing.
“It will not be possible to get out of the current situation without the people and through relying on a single group or faction,” the politician added. “It would be wrong to believe that those who have already been tested are able to resolve the problems” in the future if they enter the scene again.
