Bayern Munich have come from two goals down to crush Mainz 5-2 at Allianz Arena to go back to the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern looked rusty in the first half and conceded two goals. Jonathan Burkardt hammered a volley past Manuel Neuer before Alexander Hack headed-in superbly for the second.

But it was a different story for the German champions after the restart as Joshua Kimmich pulled one back with a header before Leroy Sane put Bayern on level terms with a scorcher from 20 meters out.

Halftime substitute Niklas Sule then turned the tide in the 70th minute by scoring from inside the box with the aid of a deflection.

That was followed by a brace from Robert Lewandowski as the pole dispatched a penalty before volleying in a cross from Thomas Muller for his 19th goal of the season.
