Afghans hold US responsible for rise in violence in Afghanistan

Following deadly attacks and bombings in Afghanistan, people in the country have grown more skeptical of the efficacy of recent peace talks in Qatar.

Hundreds of tribal leaders from eastern Nangarhar Province have gathered outside the US Embassy in Kabul to call on US officials to put an end to the war and conflict in the country. They say Washington’s so-called peace deal with the Taliban militants has resulted in the rise in bloodshed in Afghanistan.

The recent deadly attacks, mainly the ones on Kabul University and Kawthar-e-Danesh educational center in western Kabul, have angered all in Afghanistan. That is why they have launched several rallies like this one in Kabul to condemn such attacks and call on the US to put more pressure on the Taliban to stop killing Afghans.

These protesters, who have come a long way from eastern Afghanistan to the capital, Kabul, say the failures of US policies on the Taliban, including the release of 6,000 Taliban prisoners, have boosted the militants’ morale and have emboldened them.

In the meantime, these angry protesters consider the war in Afghanistan a proxy one. They want other players to stop considering this wounded land an international battlefield.

The Afghan government, the country’s independent human rights commission, some foreign embassies like the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, and the UN have strongly condemned the recent brutal killing of innocent university and school students in separate attacks in Kabul that were claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.
