In a show of strength, Iran’s Armed Forces are staging three-day military drills in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
The first day of the exercises, code-named Zolfaghar 99, provided a multi-threat training environment where the forces took part in collective training in preparation for deployment as a joint task force.
Speaking to Press TV, Iranian commanders said the strategic region has been a focal point of geopolitical tensions in recent years and that the annual drills are intended to reinforce collective security for the region.
The combined maneuvers consist of various tactical missions, which include target practice, exchanging information and intelligence, rescue missions, and operational experience. They also seek to help the Iranian army to be better prepared for battle by deepening exchange and cooperation among the forces.
The joint exercises cover two million square kilometers stretching from the Island of Larak to the Indian Ocean. The forces are using the advanced capabilities of the IRGC in air defense and missile technology, as well.
On the second day of the joint military maneuvers, Iranian forces will test different types of weapons, including torpedoes.
