Fighting has once again erupted in Yemen’s port city of Hudaydah as the Ansarullah movement blames the Saudi-led coalition for breaching a ceasefire that was brokered by the United Nations to avert an offensive on the Red Sea port city.
This time, they have pounded this neighborhood of Alzohor, in alhali district, with mortar shells. The army spokesperson says Saudi-backed forces have violated the ceasefire tens of times since the Stockholm agreement was inked on December 23, 2018. Analysts say Riyadh is not willing to put an end to its brutal attacks.
While Riyadh has intensified its airstrikes in different regions of Yemen, including Hajjah, Marib, al-Jawf, on Monday, the Saudis claimed their air defense has shot down two drones that attempted to target the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait. They said that retaliatory operation was carried out by Ansarallah fighters.
In the face of the escalation by Saudi Arabia and Saudi-backed forces on different fronts, experts say peace initiatives should be seriously considered by Riaydh. They say Ansarallah and their allied army forces are under immense popular pressure to retaliate deep inside the invading country’s territory.
