Bundesliga: Werder Bremen 1-4 Bayer Leverkusen

The first round of Bundesliga matches in over two months has ended and Bayer Leverkusen have kept their hopes of securing a champions league spot alive, after a 4-1 win away at Werder Bremen.

Leverkusen broke the deadlock, 28 minutes into the game, thanks to Kai Havertz header before Theodor Gebre Selassie drew level from a corner kick on the half-hour mark.

But Havertz restored Leverkusen's advantage 3 minutes later, with another header, following a set-piece situation.

The visitors doubled the lead, when Mitchell Weiser headed home in the 61st minute and Kerem Demirbay completed the thrashing, as he dinked the ball over the keeper for the 4th. The result moved Leverkusen with a point of the top 4 while Bremen stuck in the drop zone, 9 points adrift of safety.
