Ivanka Trump criticized for childcare advice during coronavirus crisis

A photo Ivanka Trump shared of herself making a fort with her children in her living room, advising other families to do the same in the caption.

Ivanka Trump has come in for criticism after posting a twitter message telling families what to do while in quarantine or social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The senior adviser to President Donald Trump has been working from home after she came into contact with Peter Dutton, Australian Home Affairs minister who tested positive a week later for Covid-19.

Ms. Trump, who is staying home after the government and Dr. Anthony Fauci - director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases - advised her to do so, tweeted Monday that “this is wise. #SocialDistancingWorks.”

On Tuesday, she shared a photo of herself and her children making a fort for the kids at home, suggesting other families in the photo’s caption that they should do the same.

The tweet was, however, slammed by users who felt she was not considering her financial advantages in comparison to many American families who are going through a tough time due to the coronavirus crisis and its financial burdens.

One user tweeted, “Congratulations on being rich & being married to a guy actually profiting off this catastrophe.”

"There are actually people suffering. Without enough food. Without nannies or cooks or cleaning people to help with the kids. Who are forced to work or risk losing their job/business."

Other tweeters referenced to her father’s tough immigration policies that caused children to be separated from their parents and kept in detention centers, with one user writing, “y’all really like putting kids in tents.”

Yet another user wrote, “Wow! Moms are scrambling for childcare right now. This is so “Let them eat cake”'.

According to the latest figures, at least 110 people have died from the new coronavirus in the US, and the total number of known infections has surged past 6,400 as the contagions spreads to all 50 states.
