Coronavirus forces Kashmir to shut educational institutes

Authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir have ordered the closure of schools, colleges and universities after the region reported its first cases of the novel coronavirus infection.
The pandemic and the closure of educational institutions which had opened in the region after almost 7 months led to a wave of panic and uncertainty in Kashmir, with many questioning the statistics released by the government.
Many are already concerned about a shortage of protective equipment.
The first case of coronavirus was reported in the Jammu region while dozens of people with Coronavirus-like symptoms are under surveillance in Kashmir's only tertiary care hospital.
The COVID-19 pandemic seems to have caught the authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir off-guard. The government’s unpreparedness has led to panic and chaos across the region where people are demanding more serious measures to protect health, safety, and well-being of the community.
