Impeachment hearings re-open with testimony from Kurt Volker and Timothy Morrison
The US House Intelligence Committee began on Tuesday afternoon the fourth public hearing in the impeachment probe of US President Donald J. Trump.
Ambassador Kurt Volker, the former US special envoy to Ukraine, and Timothy Morrison, a White House aide with the National Security Council focusing on Europe and Russia policy, were sworn in before giving their statements.
Tuesday morning, the committee heard testimony from Jennifer Williams, an aide to Vice President Mike Pence, and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, who serves as the director for European affairs at the National Security Council.
The committee is investigating whether Trump pressured Kiev to investigate Ukrainian energy company Burisma in an effort to bolster his re-election next year.
The investigation could lead the House to approve formal charges against Trump - called articles of impeachment - that would be sent to the Republican-controlled Senate for a trial on whether to remove him from office. Few Republican senators have broken with Trump.
Trump has denied wrongdoing and attacked the Democrats leading the inquiry.
