Turkey's offensive in Syria may lead to confrontation with US
Turkish forces have pressed ahead with an offensive against US-backed Kurdish militants in Syria’s northern areas. Turkey regards the Kurdish militants in Syria as terrorists and a threat to its security. With an intensification of fighting, Turkish President has threatened to expand the military operation along the country’s border with Syria where the US forces are also present. This has fueled concerns about the likelihood of a military confrontation between the Turkish and US forces in the war-torn country. In an apparent warning to the US, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said those who support terrorists will "become a target in the battle".
US strike on North Korea
It was a surprise for all to hear North Korea last week call for unity with the South. That was a reverse of events that had made everyone expecting a looming war on Pyongyang spearheaded by the United States. But a series of events that followed have again revived speculations that things have not returned to normalcy. The United States has declared a chain of new sanctions against North Korea. And this has provoked an angry reaction from the country which has described it as a violation of international law. To the world, it appears that the least thing that America is interested in under the leadership of President Donald Trump is peace.
