Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers stand first in Veteran World Championships
The national Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team has put in impressive displays of grappling skills at the Veteran World Championships, and been crowned as the champion of the international sports event.
The Iranian wrestlers finished first and picked up the trophy, having secured three gold medals through Mehdi Ahmadi, Azad Ali Mohammadpour, Hamid Reza Habibi, Mohammad Bagher Zare’, Mehdi Sadri, Mehdi Karimi and Morteza Yarmotaghi in the 62-kilogram, 70-kilogram, 88-kilogram, 100-kilogram and 130-kilogram weight categories respectively.
Alireza Sharifi Darani, Farzad Heidari, Majid Tabe’ Bordbar, Mohammad Sadeq Khoshnoudi and Sadeq Nazari finished third in the 62-kilogram, 78-kilogram, 100-kilogram and 130-kilogram sections to settle for a bronze medal each.
The Iranians won the top honor with 160 points.
Athletes from Russia collected four gold, six silver and six bronze medals, and ranked second with 160 points.
They were followed by Americans who racked up 114 points.
The Veteran World Championships kicked off at the Sports Hall Kolodrum in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on October 10, and will wrap up on October 15, 2017.
