US arming Syrian militants to create absolute mess: Analyst

US General Joseph Votel, the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), has secretly headed to Northern Syria to meet US-backed militant groups, two days after announcing that Washington was mulling more US boots on the ground in the Arab country.

According to Talal Sello, a spokesman for the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces SDF, Votel discussed the militant group’s Raqqah offensive and the possible ways to expand coordination and support during the hours-long meeting.

A former US army psychological warfare officer believes this is a “very dangerous predicament” because the United States will be siding with the Kurdish forces against Turkey which was once Washington’s ally.

“Turkey was an ally allegedly months ago, then the US was blamed for a coup against Turkey in July, then the sands have shifted and now you have got the United States allegedly promising heavy weapons to the Kurds. It is just an absolute mess,” Scott Bennett told Press TV in an interview on Saturday.

He also noted that the United States will be setting itself up for failure if it commits troops and embroils itself in the Syrian conflict.

The analyst went on to say the United States has already been blamed for financing the terrorists in Syria and allowing weapons and money into the war-torn country from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Therefore, he said, for the United States to suddenly try and shift into a different direction and simply increase its military operations is “absolute suicide” and “ridiculous”.

Bennett further highlighted the fact that Russia, Syria, Iran and China have already committed to work together in solving the Syrian crisis.

He also opined that there is really no place for the United States and a military operation in Syria, asserting that Washington is not even needed in any negotiations because of the mess that it has created.

The analyst argued the only thing the United States can do is stop the “Saudi Arabian, Qatari and Israeli financiers” that have been pushing weapons and money into Syria.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bennett maintained that Syria is another Vietnam for the United States and it could get President Donald Trump impeached.

According to the analyst, the United States has to hand the Syrian conflict over to Russia and simply be an “asset” and “assistance” to Moscow in settling the issues.
