US responsible for getting Mosul into a mess: Analyst

The London-based leading international charity, Oxfam, says that more than one-million people are still trapped inside the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

On October 17, Iraqi army soldiers, supported by the popular mobilization fighters (Hashd al-Sha’abi) and Kurdish Peshmerga forces, launched a joint operation to retake Mosul from Daesh terrorists.

The Iraqi forces’ advance has, however, been slowed down due to the presence of hundreds of thousands of civilians, many of whom being prevented by Daesh from leaving Mosul.

A human rights activist believes it is the United States that has got Mosul into a mess, adding that US President Barack Obama is the one who is responsible for the rise of the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

“What happened is the Americans encouraged the Saudis to have a full-scale offensive down the main road from Mosul to Baghdad … well from the north of Syria to Mosul. Obviously they would have liked to have gone onto Baghdad if they could have done but Mosul itself is a major gain for Daesh and it could only have been done with the support and encouragements of the United States of America,” William Spring told Press TV in an interview on Monday.

He also opined that the current difficult situation is because the West gave a carte blanche to Daesh at the beginning of the conflict to do whatever it likes as long as it tries to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The activist went on to say there is coordination among the Western countries to encourage terrorism in the Middle East and nobody seems bothered about it.

Spring further stated there needs to be some serious cooperation between different countries to get out of this mess but the trouble is they are neither allied together nor do they have clear objectives.

However, he argued, the United States and Turkey seem to be on the side of oppression, terrorism and pushing Daesh further into power rather than trying to degrade it as they claim.

The northern city of Mosul fell to Daesh in 2014, when the terror group began its campaign of mass carnage and destruction in the Arab country. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has vowed that Mosul would be fully recaptured by the end of 2016.
