Separate blasts have rocked the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, claiming the lives of 10 people, officials say.

The explosions on Friday that mainly targeted civilians also left nearly two dozen people wounded, police and hospital officials said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks but the Daesh Takfiri terrorists usually target military positions and civilians in the Arab country.

The latest bombings are apparently an attempt by terrorists to distract attention from the battle for Mosul, a northern city that fell to Daesh in 2014, when the terror outfit began its campaign of death and destruction in the Arab country.

The Iraqi army and volunteer fighters have been leading an offensive to retake Mosul since October 17.

However, the Iraqi troops’ advance has been slowed down due to the presence of hundreds of thousands of civilians, many of whom are prevented from leaving Mosul by Daesh.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has vowed that Mosul would be fully recaptured by the end of 2016.

In October, Abadi warned of potential revenge attacks by Daesh elsewhere in the country amid losses the terrorist group has suffered in Mosul.
