US airstrike against Syrian forces was deliberate: Analyst

The US military admitted its jets may have struck Syrian military positions inside the country on Saturday.

The recent US airstrike against Syrian forces that reportedly killed scores of soldiers in the Syrian city of Dayr al-Zawr was deliberate, says an anti-war activist in Chicago.

“For five years, the US and NATO have backed foreign armies attacking the people of Syria,” said Joe Iosbaker, a leader of the United National Antiwar Committee.

It was not a coincidence that the US military attacked the Syrian military airbase in Dayr al-Zawr, Iosbaker said in an interview with Press TV on Monday.

The Pentagon has been inciting violence is Syria by providing military training and weapons to terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL) and the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra Front, he added.

Al-Nusra Front was set up shortly after foreign-sponsored militancy erupted in Syria in 2011. Originally supported by Daesh, the al-Nusra Front split from the Takfiri terrorist group in 2013.

On Saturday, US-led coalition aircraft bombed the airbase in Dayr al-Zawr, killing dozens of Syrian soldiers and injuring at least a hundred more.

Britain, Australia and Denmark have also announced their aircraft were among a group of Western warplanes that targeted the Syrian forces.

The attack is likely to endanger an already shaky ceasefire deal, which was agreed by the US and Russia and came into effect in Syria on Monday 12 September.

The air raids by the US Air Force and its allies have already caused a war of words between Russia, Syria and the United States.

Russia and Syria accuse Washington of deliberately launching the strikes to help the Daesh advance in the area.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday condemned the strike as a "flagrant American aggression." He said world powers are supporting terrorist organizations in Syria, particularly Daesh.
