A Japanese man has become the world’s oldest person to swim across the country’s Tsugaru Strait.

73 year old Toshio Tominaga has set a record swimming for almost 10 hours to get through Japan’s treacherous Tsugaru Strait.
Toshio had to battle stinging jelly fish and strong unpredictable currents along the way. While the strait is as narrow as 19.5 kilometers at some points, he ended up swimming against the stream for 38 hours as horizontal currents slowed him down. Marathon swimmers usually attempt the Japanese strait as part of their bid to complete a series of long distance swims.

Last month, an 18 year old swimmer became the youngest and fastest woman to have accomplished the feat.
