Young Iranian volleyballers lose to Turkey in Serbia

The 24th edition of the World Schools Championship Volleyball started on June 25 in Belgrade, Serbia, and will run through July 3, 2016.

Young Iranian volleyball players have lost to Turkey at the 24th edition of the World Schools Championship Volleyball in Serbia.

On Friday evening, West Azarbaijan outfit, which is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the 9-day-long tournament, conceded a 2-3 (23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 23-25 and 8-15) defeat to the Turks in a semi-final fixture held at the Sports Center Sumice in Belgrade.

The Turkish volleyball players started the match energetically. The first set ended at the score of 25-23 for Turkey.

The Iranian squad, however, came from behind as the match went into the second set. The Persians could regain the lead and went on earning points to finally close the set at 25-19.

The Iranian squad did not give up in the third set, and upheld its composure to register a 25-22 win.

The Turkish volleyball players fought back in the fourth set and could grab it 25-23 at last.

The Turks kept their domination on court into the last set, achieving a 15-8 victory at the end of the decider.

The Iranian students’ volleyball team is scheduled to play against an outfit from Poland on Saturday in a third-place match. Turkey will take on Spain for the top honor in the final encounter the following day.

The 24th edition of World Schools Championship Volleyball started on June 25 and will run through July 3.
